Your child deserves more than just a classroom. They deserve a launchpad.

Let me ask you something. When your child talks about joining the army or the navy, do you take it seriously? Because you should.

Some of the finest officers in India's armed forces started their journey as kids — 10, 11, 12 years old — walking through the gates of a Rashtriya Military School ↗ or the Rashtriya Indian Military College. That is where it begins. Not at NDA. Not at the academy. It begins much, much earlier.

But here is the catch. Getting in is ridiculously competitive.

The Entrance Exams Are No Joke

Every year, lakhs of kids sit for these entrance tests. The Rashtriya Military School conducts its Common Entrance Test (CET) in December. RIMC holds a separate exam, usually around March. Sainik Schools run the AISSEE ↗ in January. Three different exams. Three different patterns. And all three are harder than anything your child has faced in school so far.

The RMS CET alone has 180 questions across Maths, English, Intelligence and General Knowledge. For Class 9 it gets even tougher — Science and Social Studies get added in. The RIMC exam? Forget about it. That paper is designed to push even the sharpest kids to their limits.

Regular school studies will not cut it. I have seen parents realise this too late. Please do not be one of them.

Why Coaching Actually Makes a Difference

I know what some of you are thinking. "My child is bright. Do they really need coaching?"

Probably yes. And here is why.

Rashtriya Military School coaching is not about teaching your kid Maths from scratch. They already know Maths. What coaching does is teach them how to solve under pressure. How to attempt 180 questions in a fixed time. How to spot tricky answer choices. How to stay calm when the paper is harder than expected.

Good RIMC coaching does something similar but goes deeper. The RIMC exam tests reasoning and comprehension at a level most kids have never seen before. A proper RIMC entrance exam coaching programme builds that muscle over months — not days.

And honestly the mock tests alone are worth it. When your child has already sat through twenty full-length practice papers before the real exam, the actual test day feels like just another Saturday.

What to Look For in a Good Coaching Centre

Not every institute out there is worth your money. I have seen too many parents burn cash at places that promise the moon and deliver nothing. So here is what actually matters.

Teachers who know the exam. Not just teachers who know the subject. There is a huge difference. The best centres for military school entrance coaching have faculty who have studied the papers for years. Some of them are ex-defence officers themselves. They do not guess what might come. They know.

Small batch sizes. If your kid is sitting in a class of sixty, nobody is paying attention to them. Period. Look for places that keep batches tight — fifteen to twenty kids at most. That is where real RMS Class 6 & 9 preparation happens.

RIMC Coaching

Proper interview training. Both RMS and RIMC have interview rounds after the written test. A lot of parents forget about this part entirely. The written exam gets you shortlisted. The interview is what gets you selected. Any decent coaching programme should include personality development and mock interview sessions.

Fitness guidance. Military schools check physical fitness too. Your child needs to meet height, weight and basic fitness standards. The best Sainik coaching centres include this in their programme instead of treating it as an afterthought.

When Should You Start Preparing?

Yesterday. I am only half joking.

If your child is in Class 4 or Class 7 right now, this is the perfect window. Starting a year before the exam gives enough time to cover the syllabus properly, do multiple rounds of revision, and take plenty of mock tests. Starting six months before? Doable but stressful. Three months? You are gambling.

The families who plan ahead are the ones whose kids crack it. I have seen this pattern repeat year after year after year.

One Last Thing

Your child has one shot at the right age. The eligibility window for Rashtriya Military School is 10–12 years for Class 6 and 13–15 years for Class 9. Rashtriya Indian Military College takes students around the same age bracket for Class 8. Miss that window and it is gone. There is no second chance at this particular door.

Military School Entrance Coaching

So if your child has that fire in them — that desire to serve, to lead, to be part of something bigger — do not let the opportunity slip by. Find the right military school entrance coaching, start early, and give them the best shot you possibly can.

They will thank you for it someday. Probably while wearing that uniform.
