India is getting 100 new Sainik Schools. These schools are being set up under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This means the government works with private schools, NGOs, and state governments to open new schools across the country.
This article gives you all the key facts — what PPP means, which states have new schools, and how your child can get admission.
What Is the PPP Model?
The Government of India has approved 100 new Sainik Schools under the Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence. These are set up through partnerships with state governments, NGOs, and private schools.
Private schools apply to become a Sainik School. Once approved, they follow Sainik School rules and take students through the AISSEE ↗ entrance exam. The school runs itself but works under the Ministry of Defence.
The government gives up to 50% fee support — up to Rs. 40,000 per student per year — for eligible students. This makes it possible for more families to afford a Sainik School education.
Why Did India Need More Sainik Schools?
As of 2021, India had only 33 Sainik Schools for a population of 140 crore. Many states had no Sainik School at all. Children from small towns and villages had no access to this kind of education.
Sainik Schools, along with RIMC ↗ and RMS, contribute 25–30% of officer cadets to NDA and INA. The PPP model helps fill the gap and take this opportunity to every corner of India.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the 100-school plan at the Diamond Jubilee of Sainik School Ghorakhal in March 2026. He also confirmed that girls are now allowed in Sainik Schools — a big and welcome change.
First Batch — 18 Schools (December 2022)
The first official list was released by the Ministry of Defence through PIB (Press Information Bureau). These 18 schools signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Sainik Schools Society.
