Understanding the Cut-Off Marks

Cut-off marks are the marks a student needs to score to qualify for the next round. The cut-off is different for categories. It also changes every year based on the difficulty level of the exam and the number of students who appeared.

What Decides the Cut-Off?

There are things that affect the cut-off marks each year.

The total number of students who appeared for the exam matters a lot.

The difficulty level of the question paper also plays a role.

General Trend

The cut-off for category is usually the highest.

Students from SC, ST and OBC categories get some relaxation in the cut-off marks.

Defence category students whose parents are serving or retired from the forces also get some benefit in the selection process.

Category-Wise Analysis

The RMS exam follows the reservation policy of the Government of India. This means seats are reserved for categories.

General Category (Unreserved)**: Students in this category need to score the marks to qualify. The competition is very tough in this category.

OBC Category ( Backward Classes)**: Students from OBC category get some relaxation in the cut-off marks. The cut-off for OBC is usually a few marks than the general category.

SC Category (Scheduled Caste)**: The cut-off for SC category is lower compared to OBC categories.

ST Category (Scheduled Tribe)**: The cut-off for ST category is usually the lowest among all categories.

Defence Category**: Children of serving and retired defence personnel get some preference in the selection process.

Previous Year Cut-Off Trends

For Class 6 admission the general category cut-off has been around 55 to 65 percent in years. For OBC it has been around 50 to 60 percent. For SC it has been around 40 to 50 percent. For ST it has been around 35 to 45 percent.
